One day in 2009, Joshua Suarez decided he would run the 102 kilometer Bataan Death March Ultramarathon. He had never run anything more than 42 kilometers in his entire life and even then just once. Why this now?
Even while growing up, Joshua was never what you would call “the athletic type.” He discovered a love for running only two years ago. It began after a trip to the States. Feeling overweight, he and his wife, Jaja, began running in the Fort. Here he met serious runners from a group called the “Fortstriders”. Starting out at 1 kilometer, he continued running until it became 5 then 10 and so forth until he found himself running the 42 km marathon last year.
The idea of going beyond self-imposed limits challenged Joshua to do the 102 kilometer ultramarathon. He has trained hard and well knowing that he can’t afford to quit half way because he is running for a cause. The 115 young scholars of Real LIFE are his inspiration to finish the race in 15 hours.
Joshua is asking for your help to fulfill his dream to get a P1,000 sponsor for every kilometer he runs from 1-99km, and P10,000 for the final three kilometers (100-102km) of this grueling event.
His goal: to raise more than 100,000 pesos for the Real LIFE Foundation. On March 6, the Bataan Death March, an event that commemorates the death of thousands of war heroes, through the dedication and passion of one runner will become a LIFE March.
